PUIC a Strategic Forum to Tackle Global Challenges and Promote Muslim Solidarity: President Prabowo

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday emphasized the vital role of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) as a forum for addressing increasingly complex global challenges. His remarks were delivered during the 19th Session of the PUIC Conference at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta, which was broadcast via the Presidential Secretariat’s official YouTube channel.
“In the midst of global polarization, the PUIC is becoming increasingly relevant,” President Prabowo stated, underlining the union’s strategic significance in strengthening unity and coordination among Muslim-majority countries.
He noted that the PUIC was established from a shared awareness of the need for a collective parliamentary platform to address common challenges and to safeguard the interests of Muslims worldwide. “This union of Muslim countries was born from a shared awareness that the Muslim world needs a forum for togetherness between parliaments in facing global challenges and to defend the interests of Muslims everywhere,” he explained.
President Prabowo further commended the PUIC’s role in promoting parliamentary diplomacy, voicing hope that it would continue to serve as a bridge for enhancing solidarity, advancing justice, and formulating solutions to complex international issues.
He highlighted the importance of inter-parliamentary collaboration among Muslim nations as a strategic tool in encouraging a more equitable and peaceful global order.
Expressing his pride in Indonesia’s role as host of the 19th PUIC Session, the President said, “Today, I am speaking with representatives of one-fourth of the world’s population. You are all representatives of all Muslims from Muslim countries in the world.”
Indonesia is hosting the 19th PUIC Session from May 12 to 15, with the event also marking the 25th anniversary of the organization. The conference, themed “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” is expected to attract 450 delegates from parliaments of OIC member states and observer countries.
The conference affirms Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting Muslim solidarity, parliamentary cooperation, and global peace.
