Marcos Inspects PICC as Philippines Steps Up Preparations for 49th ASEAN Summit
Pasay City, The Gulf Observer: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday inspected the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City as part of preparations for the Philippines’ hosting of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing that the President checked the PICC facilities to ensure the country’s readiness to host this year’s regional gathering.
Castro said the President devoted the day to an important engagement that will serve as a guide for the government’s preparations for the ASEAN Summit, adding that he personally led the inspection of the PICC that morning ahead of the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
The PICC, considered a National Cultural Treasure, is Asia’s first international convention center and has hosted historic global and local events since its inauguration in 1976.
The building has undergone an extensive complex-wide renovation, as it is set to serve as the main venue for the Philippines’ hosting of the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in November.
President Marcos reopened the PICC in September 2025, unveiling new state-of-the-art technologies and upgrades to the facility.
On 25 August, the President also led the reopening of the historic Coconut Palace, which will likewise serve as one of the venues for the regional summit.
