Royal Opera House Muscat Announces Exciting Line-Up for January 2025
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) is set to continue its thrilling 2024/25 season with an extraordinary range of performances and educational activities in January 2025, offering something for audiences of all ages. From enchanting ice-skating performances to captivating cultural festivals and operatic masterpieces, the month promises a series of unforgettable experiences.
Beauty and the Beast on Ice (January 2, 3, 4) – A magical production of Beauty and the Beast comes to life on ice, starring British-Omani ice-skating champion Amani Fancy. This breathtaking show, presented by the International Ice Stars, blends stunning choreography, aerial acrobatics, and special effects to create an icy wonderland that families will enjoy.
Folk Music Festival (January 16 & 17) – The annual Folk Music Festival returns, bringing together Omani folk traditions and performances from Bulgaria, South Korea, and Paraguay. Held in the Royal Opera House’s stunning maidan, the festival celebrates the beauty of heritage and cultural exchange through music, dance, and storytelling.
Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi (January 23 & 25) – Renowned conductor Valery Gergiev directs the Mariinsky Opera in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, a powerful tale of love, loss, and reconciliation. Directed by Andrea De Rosa, the production features historical costumes and video projections of the Ligurian Sea. Pre-performance talks on January 22 will delve into the opera’s themes, while the Lunch Music session on January 18 offers a relaxed performance of the opera’s beloved arias.
Opera Masterpieces with Young Mariinsky Soloists (January 24) – Emerging stars from the Mariinsky Theatre present a recital of Russian arias by composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky, celebrating Russian vocal traditions and showcasing rising operatic talent.
Majida El Roumi (January 31) – The month concludes with a soul-stirring performance by Lebanese singer and UN Goodwill Ambassador, Majida El Roumi. Known as the “Angel of Tarab” and the “Star of Peace,” her unique voice and beautiful music make this concert an unmissable event.
In addition to these performances, ROHM offers a variety of educational and community events. Highlights include a talk and workshop on Paganini’s Violins and Italian Violin Making (January 14), a special session for Omani students as part of the Paganini for Everyone initiative, and a Let’s Read storytelling session (January 11) in both Arabic and English for children aged 7 and above.
