Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Children in Armed Conflicts at UN Security Council

Saudi Arabia

New York, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed that protecting children affected by armed conflicts is a shared international responsibility requiring coordinated efforts to address both the immediate humanitarian consequences and the underlying causes of conflict.

The Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, made the remarks during a United Nations Security Council session on children and armed conflict held on Thursday.

Addressing the Council, Alwasil underscored Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to safeguarding civilians, particularly children, through humanitarian and relief initiatives carried out by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. He noted that the center has implemented assistance programmes in more than 90 countries, providing aid to people affected by conflicts and natural disasters without discrimination.

Speaking on the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip, Alwasil described the ongoing developments as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and shared humanitarian values. He called for urgent international action to end the humanitarian crisis, ensure the protection of children, and hold those responsible for serious violations accountable.

The Saudi envoy reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for all genuine United Nations initiatives aimed at protecting children and promoting peace, security, and stability in regions affected by armed conflict.

He further emphasized that Saudi Arabia places special importance on protecting the rights of children in conflict zones, describing the commitment as consistent with the principles of Islamic law and the Kingdom’s longstanding humanitarian values and efforts.
