Saudi Students Triumph at 36th Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad

Riyadh, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Arabian mathematics students have achieved a remarkable victory, winning 10 awards at the 36th annual Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO), the Saudi Press Agency reported late Wednesday. The Saudi team, represented by the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the Ministry of Education, competed against 345 students from 38 countries.

The Saudi delegation secured two silver medals, five bronze medals, and three certificates of commendation. Youssef Bakheet, from the educational directorate of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, and Muath Al-Qahtani from the Eastern Province were the proud recipients of the silver medals.

Bronze medals were awarded to Mohammed Al-Ghamdi and Ilyas Al-Faraj from the Eastern Province, Ahmed Al-Shahri from Riyadh, Fatima Bouali from Al-Ahsa, and Ahmed Khalawi from Jeddah. Certificates of commendation were presented to Mohammed Hafez and Abdul Salam Al-Salmi from Madinah, and Youssef Khalawi from Jeddah.

Amal Al-Hazaa, Secretary-General of Mawhiba, expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements. “This victory is a source of pride for the entire nation,” Al-Hazaa stated.

The participation in APMO is part of Mawhiba’s program for international Olympiads, conducted in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education. This program is one of 20 initiatives offering advanced curricula and enrichment programs provided annually by Mawhiba and the ministry for talented students.
