Sri Lankan PM Stresses Skills, Vision as Cornerstones of National Progress
Colombo, The Gulf Observer: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has underscored the importance of equipping young people with skills and vision, stating that the country’s future prosperity depends on empowering the next generation through quality education and meaningful opportunities.
Speaking at the official launch of the Sri Lanka Skills Expo 2026 at the Colombo Mayor’s Official Residence, the Prime Minister said a nation can only achieve sustainable progress by nurturing a generation of skilled, confident, and forward-looking youth. She emphasized that creating opportunities for young people must go hand in hand with ensuring those opportunities become a reality.
Dr. Amarasuriya highlighted the government’s commitment to making significant investments in the education sector in the coming years, with particular focus on vocational education and skills development. She noted that a dedicated steering committee has already been established to ensure that planned reforms are effectively implemented rather than remaining policy proposals.
The Prime Minister stressed that vocational education should no longer be viewed as an alternative pathway, but as an integral component of national development. She said every field of study contributes not only to employment creation but also to economic growth, social progress, and the personal development of individuals.
She further expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that students and young people from across Sri Lanka, particularly schoolchildren from all regions, have the opportunity to participate in educational exhibitions such as the Skills Expo, describing them as important platforms for promoting innovation, career guidance, and national development.
