Sultan of Oman Hosts Official Welcome for President Pezeshkian in Muscat

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman formally received Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian with full state honors on Tuesday at Al Alam Palace, marking the beginning of Pezeshkian’s two-day official visit to Muscat aimed at deepening bilateral relations and enhancing regional cooperation.

The official welcoming ceremony was held shortly after President Pezeshkian’s arrival at Muscat International Airport, where he was received by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahab bin Tariq Al Said and Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi. At Al Alam Palace, both nations’ anthems were played, and an honor guard was reviewed, followed by the formal introduction of senior officials from both delegations. A 21-gun salute was fired in honor of the Iranian President and his accompanying delegation.

President Pezeshkian is set to hold a private meeting with Sultan Haitham, after which the two sides will convene for a high-level bilateral session to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in political, economic, and regional spheres. The talks are expected to culminate in the signing of several cooperation agreements spanning infrastructure, maritime affairs, trade, and other strategic areas.

Accompanying the Iranian President are senior officials including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Defense Minister Brigadier-General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare Ahmad Meydari, Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Atabak, and Minister of Justice Amin-Hossein Rahimi. Their presence underscores the broad scope of the bilateral agenda being pursued.

The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions, particularly in Gaza, where both Iran and Oman have voiced concern over continued Israeli aggression. President Pezeshkian has reiterated the need for regional countries to form a united front in the face of what he described as “criminal behavior by the Israeli regime.” The two sides are expected to discuss initiatives aimed at supporting peace, security, and humanitarian efforts in the region.

This visit follows Sultan Haitham’s state trip to Tehran two years ago and builds on the momentum of diplomatic exchanges that included the late President Ebrahim Raisi’s official visit to Muscat. Oman has played a key mediating role in regional diplomacy, including facilitating five rounds of indirect talks between Iran and the United States since April, in a bid to revive diplomatic efforts following the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement.

President Pezeshkian’s visit marks a significant moment in Iran-Oman relations, with both sides seeking to reaffirm their longstanding ties and collaborate on mutual challenges across the region.
