Sultanate of Oman Showcases Environmental Initiatives at COP29 in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman inaugurated its national pavilion at the 29th Climate Summit (COP29) in Baku, showcasing the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability in the presence of global climate negotiators. The pavilion opening was attended by Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, who emphasized Oman’s dedication to meeting climate agreements from past and current summits.

In his remarks, Minister Al Aufi underscored Oman’s practical steps toward energy transition and carbon emission reduction, noting that energy dialogue should not polarize oil and gas producers against proponents of clean energy. “The world needs all types of available energy, but with a commitment to clean practices,” he stated, addressing the challenges of financing climate initiatives despite commitments from various nations.

Oman’s pavilion at COP29 presents the country’s strides toward achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, featuring the roles of the Environment Authority and advancements in emission reduction, energy transition, and sustainable practices across industries. Highlighted sectors include industry, electricity generation, oil and gas, and transportation.

Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, praised Oman’s impactful presence at the summit, noting the national efforts in renewable energy, solar energy, and green hydrogen. He revealed that the pavilion hosted a discussion panel, bringing together Environment Ministers and climate experts from around the globe, including the United Nations.

With more than 200 representatives from Omani institutions, Oman’s pavilion illustrates a unified approach to achieving national climate goals, including the National Strategy for Zero Neutrality. The pavilion also educates visitors on Oman’s clean energy projects and policies, reflecting Oman’s commitment to a sustainable future.
