Tajik President, Chinese Premier Discuss Expanding Strategic and Economic Cooperation

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Emomali Rahmon met with Li Qiang in Beijing during his state visit to the People’s Republic of China, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral strategic and economic cooperation.
During the meeting, President Rahmon described China as “a friendly country, a good neighbor, and a reliable strategic partner” for Tajikistan.
The talks highlighted the steady growth in bilateral economic ties, with trade between the two countries increasing by nearly 46 percent in 2025 compared to 2024. It was also noted that Chinese investment in Tajikistan’s economy from 2007 to 2024 reached nearly six billion US dollars, the majority of which comprised direct investment.
The effective operation of more than 700 companies with Chinese capital in Tajikistan was cited as evidence of the strong trust and cooperation between the business communities of both countries.
The two sides noted growing Chinese investment in key sectors including mining, energy, transport, construction and agriculture. Tajikistan also expressed interest in attracting further Chinese investment for projects related to digitalization, artificial intelligence, modern technologies, green economy development, energy and industry.
The meeting included a detailed exchange of views on the continued implementation of major joint projects in Tajikistan’s real economic sectors, particularly energy, road construction, industry and agriculture.
Discussions also covered measures to increase Tajik agricultural and agro-industrial exports to the Chinese market, as well as plans for establishing an innovative scientific and technical agropark jointly by the two countries in Tajikistan, alongside other issues of mutual interest.
