Tajik President Visits Renovated Sirdaryo Teahouse in Khujand

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon visited the fully renovated Sirdaryo teahouse in the city of Khujand on September 22 as part of preparations for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s State Independence.

Located on the left bank of the Syr Darya River, the Sirdaryo teahouse has been reconstructed over an area of 2,741 square metres. The project was commissioned by the State Communal Enterprise of the Main Construction Department of Khujand City, while the construction work was carried out by Sokhtmon Peshsaz LLC.

President Rahmon was briefed on the architectural features of the renovated facility, which was designed in accordance with traditional Tajik national architectural styles. The interior and exterior decoration incorporates traditional artistic techniques, including painting, plasterwork and wood carving.

The decorative elements combine distinctive national motifs with contemporary architectural approaches, reflecting Tajikistan’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

Three carved conversation pavilions have also been installed in the courtyard of the teahouse, further highlighting traditional Tajik craftsmanship.

During his visit, President Rahmon also participated in an initiative to support the development of fish farming in Khujand, releasing one million fish fry into the Syr Darya River through four designated ponds.

The released fish fry comprised white amur, white-headed carp and common carp species. They were raised at fish hatcheries operating in cities and districts across the Sughd region.

The initiative was organized by the Executive Body of State Power of Sughd Region and the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan in line with the directives of President Rahmon, with the aim of increasing fish stocks in the Syr Darya River.

Five aquariums at the site also displayed various species of white amur, white-headed carp and common carp bred at fish production facilities and fish farms in the region.

President Rahmon was informed that, depending on water and climatic conditions, these fish species can reach an average weight of between 600 grams and 1.5 kilograms within one year.

Following the release of the fish fry, President Rahmon issued recommendations to specialists on further developing the country’s fish-farming sector.

He noted that more than 20 species of fish can be raised in Tajikistan’s water resources, emphasizing the potential for further development of aquaculture and fish production in the country.
