Tajikistan, South Korea Discuss Strengthening Interparliamentary Cooperation

Seoul, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, held a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Cho Jung-sik on September 17 during his official visit to South Korea.

President Rahmon highlighted the important role of active interparliamentary dialogue in further expanding multifaceted relations between Tajikistan and South Korea.

In this context, the sides emphasized the need to strengthen the activities of the Friendship and Cooperation Group between the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan and the National Assembly of South Korea as an effective mechanism for promoting bilateral cooperation.

Tajikistan also attached importance to the activities of the Platform of Speakers of the Parliaments of Central Asian Countries and the Republic of Korea in implementing initiatives aimed at promoting joint development and ensuring regional stability.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the current level and state of political relations between Tajikistan and South Korea.

Particular attention was paid to expanding economic and trade ties, investment cooperation and industrial partnerships.

The sides expressed confidence that the Tajikistan–Korea Business Forum, held in Seoul on September 16, would provide significant impetus to strengthening direct contacts between business communities, attracting investment, implementing joint projects and enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

The importance of parliamentary support in improving the legal framework for economic relations, promoting business initiatives and creating favourable conditions for private-sector activities was also emphasized.

The meeting further addressed important issues of regional and international cooperation, including interaction between the two countries within major international organizations, particularly the United Nations.
