Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra to Lead Mobile Cabinet Meeting in Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai

Bangkok, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will preside over a mobile cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai on Friday as part of a broader tour of Thailand’s northern provinces. The visit, scheduled from Thursday, November 28, to Sunday, December 1, aims to address critical regional issues and promote post-flood economic recovery, according to Jirayu Houngsub, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office.

The cabinet delegation will focus on initiatives to revive northern tourism, which has been significantly impacted by recent major floods. Promoting the region’s tourism sector is central to the government’s strategy to bolster the local economy, with an emphasis on generating income and supporting sustainable recovery efforts.

An important component of the visit includes inspecting wildfire prevention measures and addressing the seasonal haze problem, which affects the North annually from late winter to summer. The haze, largely caused by bushfires, contributes to hazardous PM2.5 ultra-fine dust pollution, which negatively impacts public health and tourism.

The Prime Minister and her team will depart from Don Muang district’s Royal Air Force Wing 6 on Thursday night and arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport. On Friday morning, she will chair the mobile cabinet meeting at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in Mae Rim district.

In addition to attending various functions in Chiang Mai, including discussions on air quality management and wildfire preparedness, the Prime Minister will also travel to Chiang Rai. There, she will participate in a meeting in Mae Sai district focused on economic recovery and flood prevention plans.

This mobile cabinet tour reflects the government’s commitment to addressing regional challenges and supporting the economic and environmental resilience of northern Thailand.
