Tokayev Briefed on Astana Urban Development, Taza Qazaqstan Initiative

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received reports on Saturday from heads of relevant government agencies concerning urban development in Astana and the implementation of the nationwide Taza Qazaqstan environmental initiative.

Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek briefed the President on comprehensive greening and improvement efforts being carried out in the capital. According to him, around 500 courtyards and public spaces have been renovated or improved in recent years.

More than 170 courtyards and public areas, including parks, garden squares and boulevards, are scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

Tokayev was also informed about progress in creating a unified system of public and recreational spaces along the Yessil River. The project envisages a continuous green corridor linking parks, promenades and sports facilities across the city.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Alibek Kuantyrov reported on the results of the Taza Qazaqstan initiative. Since its launch, more than 2,000 environmental events have been held across Kazakhstan.

The nationwide campaign has resulted in the removal of more than 3.8 million tons of waste and the elimination of approximately 10,000 illegal dumpsites.

The briefing followed Tokayev’s participation in environmental activities in Astana, including the planting of a tree at the Presidential Park as part of the Taza Qazaqstan initiative.
