Tokayev Calls Qurultay Elections a Historic Milestone for Kazakhstan

Astana, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has described the first-ever elections to the country’s new unicameral Parliament, the Qurultay, as a historic day and an important milestone in Kazakhstan’s ongoing political reforms.
President Tokayev cast his ballot at polling station No. 520, located at the Palace of Independence in Astana, during the nationwide elections for deputies of the new unicameral parliament.
Speaking to media representatives after voting, Tokayev said the elections marked the beginning of an important stage in the country’s large-scale reform process. He emphasized that Kazakhstan had achieved significant results through the reforms undertaken in recent years, while noting that substantial work remained ahead.
“Today’s elections are only the beginning of this major work,” the President said, underscoring the importance of the goals set for the country’s further development.
The nationwide elections are being held on August 23, with polling stations opened across Kazakhstan and voting scheduled to continue until 8:00 p.m.
The election represents the first vote for deputies to the newly established unicameral Qurultay, marking a significant development in Kazakhstan’s parliamentary system and political transformation.
President Tokayev stressed that the country’s reforms require unity and continued efforts to achieve the objectives set for Kazakhstan’s future development. The Qurultay elections are therefore being viewed as an important step in advancing the country’s institutional and political reforms.
