Türkiye and Oman Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Historic Agreements

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman signed 10 significant agreements during the Sultan’s historic first visit to Türkiye, marking a new chapter in the two nations’ bilateral relations.

Among the agreements was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and water, reflecting the countries’ shared commitment to advancing sustainable development.

President Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye’s goal of increasing its trade volume with Oman to $5 billion, highlighting the untapped potential in their economic partnership. “Starting in 2025, with the start of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Oman, we will enter a new phase in our energy cooperation,” Erdoğan stated, signaling deeper collaboration in the energy sector.

Call for Peace in Gaza

At a joint press conference, President Erdoğan addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, welcoming U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent push for a ceasefire.

“President Biden’s announcement of a new initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza is a step that is long overdue but nonetheless an important one,” Erdoğan remarked. He underscored that regional and global peace remains unattainable without an urgent, just, and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

Erdoğan’s comments came a day after a ceasefire was achieved between Lebanon and Israel following months of cross-border tensions.

Omani Sultan Lauds Türkiye’s Regional Leadership

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq praised Türkiye’s principled stance on critical international and regional issues during his address. “Oman expresses its support for Türkiye’s positions on matters concerning our region,” the Sultan affirmed.

Highlighting the shared aspiration for a secure and stable Middle East, Sultan Haitham called for stronger cooperation among nations to resolve longstanding issues, including the Palestinian crisis. He reiterated the importance of achieving a two-state solution to ensure justice and peace for all.

The visit and agreements signal a strengthening of ties between Türkiye and Oman, fostering deeper cooperation across sectors and reinforcing their shared commitment to regional stability and prosperity.
