Turkmenistan and Italy Strengthen Bilateral Ties Through High-Level Talks

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, met with Italy’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, on January 14 to discuss the advancement of comprehensive bilateral relations. The meeting was part of Cirielli’s working visit to Ashgabat, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The discussions focused on enhancing the strong bilateral political dialogue and exploring avenues for cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. Both diplomats emphasized the importance of high-level engagements in driving forward mutual interests.
Collaboration within international organizations and the Central Asia–Italy framework was a key topic of discussion. The diplomats acknowledged the successful history of joint initiatives at the United Nations and expressed their commitment to supporting global efforts aimed at fostering peace and sustainable development.
On the same day, Turkmen-Italian political consultations were held, led by Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmet Gurbanov, and Edmondo Cirielli. The consultations reviewed the current state and future prospects of relations between the two nations, addressing regional and global issues of shared interest.
The officials underscored the potential to expand trade and economic ties, highlighting the importance of organizing business meetings and forums to facilitate deeper collaboration. They also identified archaeology, education, and cultural exchanges as promising areas for strengthened bilateral cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing political dialogue and pursuing mutually beneficial partnerships across diverse sectors, reflecting the commitment of Turkmenistan and Italy to fostering long-term relations based on shared goals and mutual respect.
