Turkmenistan and Malaysia Review Expanding Bilateral Cooperation, Mark 30 Years of Petronas Partnership

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Malaysia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Mohd Suhaimi Bin Ahmad Tajuddin on April 27, 2026, to discuss the growing scope of bilateral relations.
During the meeting, both sides noted the steady development of cooperation across political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains, reflecting the strengthening partnership between Turkmenistan and Malaysia.
The diplomats highlighted that 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with Malaysian energy company Petronas, which has built extensive experience in the country’s oil and gas sector over the past three decades.
Both sides also reaffirmed the effectiveness of collaboration in education. Hundreds of Turkmen students are currently pursuing studies at Malaysian universities, while ongoing cooperation with PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd and Petronas University of Technology continues to enhance professional training and academic exchange.
Additionally, Turkmen specialists are participating in training programs and seminars under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme, further strengthening capacity-building initiatives between the two nations.
The meeting also included discussions on preparations for upcoming engagements at the highest state and government levels, underscoring both countries’ commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.
