Leyla Aliyeva Visits Historic Sheki Khan’s Mosque Complex, Highlights Cultural Heritage Preservation

Sheki, The Gulf Observer: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, along with Arzu Aliyeva, visited the historic Sheki Khan’s Mosque Complex during their trip to Sheki city.

During the visit, the imam of the mosque, Vugar Mammadov, briefed the guests on the historical and cultural significance of the complex. He noted that the monument, dating back to the 18th century, stands as one of Sheki’s key religious, cultural, historical, and architectural landmarks.

According to historical records and inscriptions, the mosque was constructed by Haji Mahammadhuseyn Khan and holds an important place in the heritage of the Sheki Khanate.

Mammadov further highlighted that restoration work at the complex was carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, contributing to the preservation of the site’s historical integrity. A museum has also been established within the complex, showcasing exhibits from the Sheki Khanate period, including valuable material and cultural artifacts.

The museum offers visitors insights into the formation and development of the Sheki Khanate and its significant role in the history of national statehood.

At the conclusion of the visit, Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva were presented with a copy of the Holy Quran as a commemorative gift.
