Turkmenistan, Iran Review Economic Cooperation and Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors during a meeting of the co-chairs of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Ashgabat on Sunday.
The meeting, hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, was co-chaired by Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh Malvajerd.
According to officials, the two sides reviewed the current state of Turkmen-Iranian relations and discussed prospects for further strengthening cooperation at both the bilateral level and within major international organizations, particularly the United Nations.
During the talks, both delegations emphasized the longstanding principles of good-neighborliness, mutual respect, and constructive partnership that have traditionally characterized relations between the two neighboring countries.
The Iranian side congratulated Turkmenistan on the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution proclaiming “The Year of International Law, 2028,” an initiative put forward by Turkmenistan and co-sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The discussions also focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation, with both sides exchanging views on enhancing the effectiveness and role of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in advancing joint initiatives and facilitating broader bilateral engagement.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to the consistent development of cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, underscoring their intention to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Iran.
