Turkmenistan Reviews Human Rights Commitments, Discusses New National Action Plan
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Fulfilment of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law on July 25, reviewing progress made during the first half of 2026 and outlining priorities for the months ahead.
During the meeting, participants received a report on the Commission’s activities for the first six months of the year and discussed key tasks aimed at further strengthening the implementation of Turkmenistan’s international commitments in the areas of human rights and international humanitarian law.
The Commission reviewed the implementation of the Action Plan for the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law for 2024–2026, emphasizing the importance of enhancing interagency coordination and ensuring the consistent execution of the measures outlined in the plan.
A major focus of the meeting was the discussion of the draft National Human Rights Action Plan of Turkmenistan for 2026–2030. Participants noted that the proposed document is designed to further strengthen the country’s national system for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in line with international standards and Turkmenistan’s international obligations.
Addressing the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reaffirmed that Turkmenistan’s human rights policy reflects the humanitarian principles of the state, its commitment to expanding international cooperation, and its responsible fulfilment of international obligations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants identified priority areas for the future work of the Interdepartmental Commission, with the aim of improving the effectiveness of implementing Turkmenistan’s international commitments in the fields of human rights and international humanitarian law.
