Turkmenistan, Switzerland Discuss Expanding Cooperation within OSCE Framework
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, met with Ignazio Cassis, Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing collaboration within the OSCE framework.
During the meeting held on August 5, the two sides reviewed current issues on the OSCE agenda, prospects for further enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Organization, and ways to deepen interaction between Turkmenistan and Switzerland.
The officials highlighted that Turkmenistan’s partnership with the OSCE is systematic and results-oriented, implemented through the annual Project Plan of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat. The programme encompasses all three dimensions of the Organization’s work, including politico-military, economic and environmental, and human dimensions.
Both sides underscored the importance of continuing the practice of hosting high-level regional events in Ashgabat with the participation of the OSCE leadership. They positively assessed the outcomes of previous joint initiatives and exchanged views on preparations for several upcoming regional events in the Turkmen capital aimed at promoting regional cooperation and sharing international best practices.
The meeting also focused on prospects for further strengthening cooperation with the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat and expanding practical collaboration across areas of mutual interest.
At the conclusion of the talks, the Turkmen side reaffirmed its readiness to continue close and constructive cooperation with Switzerland’s OSCE Chairmanship, the OSCE Secretariat, its institutions, and the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat in support of regional stability, dialogue, and sustainable development.
