Turkmenistan to Host Major UN Conference for Landlocked Nations in August

Avaza, The Gulf Observer: More than 100 high-level delegations are set to participate in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), scheduled to take place in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone in Turkmenistan from August 5 to 8, 2025. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov during an extended visiting session of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Balkan velayat, as reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

Held under the theme “Promoting Progress through Partnerships,” the LLDC3 conference will convene at the level of heads of state and government. It is expected to bring together representatives from 32 landlocked developing countries, 47 small island developing states, 49 least developed countries, and high-level participants from various United Nations bodies, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The global forum will also see the participation of leaders and representatives from international and regional organizations, financial institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector, underlining its inclusive and multilateral approach to addressing the unique development challenges faced by landlocked developing countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, in close collaboration with the UN Secretariat, is currently engaged in intensive preparations for the conference. According to Foreign Minister Meredov, the event will feature a broad program encompassing political-diplomatic dialogues, trade and economic forums, as well as cultural and humanitarian engagements.

As part of the cultural agenda, Central Asian countries will host national days in Avaza, showcasing their rich traditions, art, and national cuisine. These cultural exchanges are expected to highlight regional diversity and foster stronger ties among participating nations.

The LLDC3 conference represents a significant opportunity for the international community to advance sustainable development goals, enhance cooperation, and promote regional integration for landlocked nations and their partners.
