Turkmenistan, U.S. Development Finance Corporation Explore Cooperation in Transport Sector

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) have discussed prospects for cooperation in the transport sector and the implementation of joint infrastructure projects with financing support during talks held in Ashgabat, according to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Railway Transport.

The discussions took place during a visit by an IDFC delegation led by Managing Director for Policy Caroline Vick. The meeting was hosted by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Railway Transport and attended by Railway Transport Minister M. Akmamedov and sector specialists.

Head of the State Service for Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan A. Shanazarov also participated in the talks via videoconference.

During the meeting, representatives of the Turkmen side reaffirmed their interest in developing a long-term and sustainable partnership with the IDFC, emphasizing Turkmenistan’s strategic geographic location as a key link in international transport and transit corridors connecting regional and global markets.

The parties exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation and discussed opportunities for implementing joint transport projects with financial support from the U.S. development finance institution.

Both sides expressed their readiness to continue constructive dialogue and further explore promising avenues for collaboration aimed at enhancing transport connectivity and supporting the development of regional transit infrastructure.
