UAE Calls for Inclusive Global Approach to Counter Extremism and Hate Speech
New York, The Gulf Observer: UAE Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar has called for an inclusive global approach to combating extremism and hate speech, stressing the importance of promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence and empowering religious and community leaders, women, youth, civil society and technology companies to play constructive roles.
Al Marar made the remarks while delivering the UAE’s statement at the Global Conference on Promoting Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue and Tolerance in Countering Hate Speech, organised by the Kingdom of Morocco in cooperation with the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect and the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
The conference was held in New York ahead of the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly.
Al Marar highlighted the UAE’s efforts to advance the “Tolerance, Peace and Security” agenda, noting that more than 200 nationalities live and work in the UAE in an environment that respects cultural diversity and provides opportunities for a dignified life, employment and stability.
He also highlighted a number of national and international initiatives aimed at promoting tolerance and strengthening interreligious and intercultural dialogue. These include the Document on Human Fraternity, the establishment of the Abrahamic Family House, and the UAE’s role in drafting UN Security Council Resolution 2686 on Tolerance, Peace and Security, which was unanimously adopted in 2023.
Al Marar said that as the United Nations undergoes reform and prepares to select a new Secretary-General, the promotion of tolerance and the fight against hate speech should remain central to the organisation’s work and leadership priorities.
He stressed that these efforts should constitute key pillars of crisis prevention, the work of special political missions, peacekeeping operations and the activities of UN representatives.
Concluding his remarks, Al Marar reaffirmed that the UAE would continue translating its efforts into concrete measures, with tolerance serving as a foundation for a secure, stable and prosperous future for all.
