UAE Launches First Phase of Blue Visa System for Environmental Leaders

Dubai, The Gulf Observer: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the launch of the first phase of the Blue Visa system, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.
The initiative, jointly unveiled by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), was announced during the World Governments Summit 2025, which is being held in Dubai from February 11 to 13.
As part of the first phase, 20 sustainability thought leaders and innovators will be granted the Blue Visa, a 10-year residence permit designed for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to environmental advocacy. Eligible recipients include members of international organizations, multinational companies, environmental associations, non-governmental organizations, global award winners, distinguished activists, and researchers in the field of sustainability.
The initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader commitment to advancing sustainability and attracting global expertise in environmental action. Interested individuals can apply directly through the ICP or be nominated by relevant UAE authorities. The electronic system introduced in this phase enables government agencies in sustainability sectors to submit applications in accordance with approved procedures.
Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the UAE’s dedication to positioning itself as a global leader in sustainability. “The Blue Visa initiative reflects the visionary leadership’s commitment to attracting top thinkers, innovators, and exceptional achievers in climate change and sustainability. This initiative aims to leverage their expertise in advancing the UAE’s national sustainability goals and shaping a greener future for the world,” she stated.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of ICP, highlighted the Authority’s commitment to facilitating seamless access to the Blue Visa system. He confirmed that eligible individuals would be able to apply through the ICP website and mobile application at any time, subject to the approved terms and conditions.
The Blue Visa serves as an extension of the UAE’s previous long-term residency programs, including the Golden and Green Residencies, reinforcing the country’s efforts to attract top global talent in key sectors.
With this initiative, the UAE continues to lead global sustainability efforts, fostering a network of experts dedicated to tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development.
