UAEU Inaugurates First-of-Its-Kind Stem Cells Research Centre in the UAE

Al Ain, The Gulf Observer: Under the patronage and in the presence of Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the university has inaugurated the Stem Cells Research Centre, a groundbreaking initiative and the first of its kind in the UAE’s academic landscape.
The centre represents a significant step forward in advancing healthcare and innovation in regenerative medicine, aligning with national strategies to strengthen the UAE’s leadership in advanced medical sciences.
Aiming to spearhead cutting-edge research, the centre focuses on stem cell therapies, enhancing manufacturing capabilities, and building international partnerships to support the growing stem cell market in the Middle East. Market projections estimate growth from USD 711.8 million in 2024 to USD 1.3 billion by 2030, driven by increasing government investment and demand for innovative medical solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Fatma Al Jasmi, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU, highlighted the significance of the initiative. “The opening of the Stem Cells Research Centre is a significant achievement that reflects the university’s vision to promote research innovation and build national capacities in medical sciences. Through this centre, we aim to prepare a new generation of Emirati scientists capable of offering advanced medical solutions and solidifying the UAE’s position as a global leader in regenerative medicine,” she said.
The centre will play a pivotal role in developing innovative treatments and advancing clinical trials through collaborations with local and global partners, notably the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre. This partnership, active since 2019, has facilitated the funding of research projects, the organization of initial clinical trials, and knowledge exchange between researchers and experts.
Positioned as a vibrant hub for scientific research and innovation, the Stem Cells Research Centre at UAEU is poised to drive the UAE’s leadership in regenerative medicine and stem cell advancements, supporting the nation’s transition to a knowledge-based economy and its vision of delivering world-class healthcare.
