UK, France to Work with Ukraine on Ceasefire Plan

London, The Gulf Observer: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the United Kingdom and France will collaborate with Ukraine to develop a ceasefire proposal, which will be presented to the United States amid ongoing diplomatic tensions, media reports.

Speaking to the BBC on Sunday, Starmer expressed confidence that former U.S. President Donald Trump seeks a lasting peace in Ukraine and emphasized that American security guarantees would be crucial to the plan’s success.

Later today, Starmer will host a high-level summit in London with European leaders to discuss the situation in Ukraine and strategies to move forward. The summit has gained significant importance following Trump’s sharp criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their White House meeting on Friday, where Trump rebuked Zelensky for insufficient gratitude towards U.S. support.

Commenting on the developments, former British national security adviser Peter Ricketts told BBC Radio on Saturday that European leaders now face the challenge of damage control.

“There’s a real problem for European leaders to pick up the pieces and try and move forward,” Ricketts stated. “It’s going to be a damage limitation exercise. It’s going to have to be an exercise in where do we go from here?”

The UK-France-Ukraine ceasefire initiative is expected to play a crucial role in shaping European diplomatic efforts and securing international consensus on ending the conflict.
