UN Chief Expresses Concern Over Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia
New York, The Gulf Observer: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over continued Houthi attacks on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia and the escalation of hostilities in the vicinity of Taiz, Yemen, warning that the developments are causing immense civilian suffering and increasing regional tensions.
Speaking to reporters in New York on Thursday, Guterres called for an immediate end to attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, schools, airports and energy facilities.
He warned that the escalation of conflicts not only deepens humanitarian suffering but also has far-reaching consequences for global energy markets, supply chains and financial systems, further intensifying the cost-of-living pressures faced by people around the world.
The UN chief urged all parties to exercise restraint and work towards establishing a political path forward in Yemen, reaffirming the United Nations’ continued efforts to support a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Guterres also emphasized the urgent need to end the fighting, ensure respect for international law, protect civilians and safeguard the rights and freedoms of international navigation.
He stressed that de-escalation and a political solution remain essential to preventing further humanitarian suffering and averting wider regional instability.
