Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Leaders Hail New Era of Regional Cooperation Following Historic Border Accord

Samarkand, The Gulf Observer: On the sidelines of the inaugural “Central Asia – European Union” summit, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held high-level talks with President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

The two leaders expressed deep satisfaction with the historic outcomes of the March 31 trilateral summit in Khujand, where Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan signed the landmark Treaty on the Junction Point of State Borders. This agreement marks a turning point for peace and stability in the region, laying a solid foundation for enhanced cooperation.

During the meeting, the presidents discussed current priorities for strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on deepening friendship, good neighborliness, strategic partnership, and alliance between the two nations.

Emphasis was placed on the practical implementation of high-level agreements, particularly in advancing economic cooperation, boosting trade turnover, and fast-tracking joint development projects. In this context, both leaders highlighted the significance of the upcoming Intergovernmental Commission meeting scheduled later this month.

The dialogue also covered key items on the regional agenda and the preparation of future bilateral and multilateral engagements, reaffirming the shared commitment of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to fostering a stable, prosperous, and interconnected Central Asia.
