Xi Jinping and Lee Hsien Loong Discuss Enhanced China-Singapore Cooperation
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Senior Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday, emphasizing the need to align development strategies and enhance bilateral cooperation.
President Xi praised Lee for his achievements during his tenure as Singapore’s Prime Minister and acknowledged his consistent support for China-Singapore relations. He noted that the two nations’ establishment of an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership last year has set a strategic course for advancing their bilateral ties.
Looking ahead to the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, Xi called for strengthening high-level exchanges, further aligning development plans, and deepening cooperation in key areas to benefit both nations’ peoples and contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
Highlighting the 30th anniversary of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park in Jiangsu Province, Xi described it as a model of bilateral collaboration and a testament to Singapore’s active role in China’s reform and opening-up efforts.
“China will always focus on running its own affairs well and has confidence in maintaining sound economic momentum in the long term, achieving high-quality development,” Xi said. He invited Singapore to continue leading cooperation efforts, advance significant projects, and capitalize on opportunities in digital and green development to forge a new era of collaboration.
Amid global risks and challenges, Xi stressed the importance of solidarity, cooperation, openness, and inclusiveness. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Singapore to promote genuine multilateralism, uphold international justice, oppose bloc divisions, and build an Asian community with a shared future.
Senior Minister Lee commended the strengthening of bilateral ties following his visit to China last year and expressed Singapore’s confidence in China’s future. He emphasized Singapore’s commitment to furthering cooperation with China and participating actively in Chinese modernization initiatives.
In light of the current complex international landscape, Lee urged all nations to maintain a long-term perspective and commitment to multilateralism to address global risks and challenges effectively for the benefit of their peoples.
During their meeting, Xi and Lee also exchanged views on critical issues of mutual concern, including China-U.S. relations and regional stability, underscoring the shared commitment to fostering cooperation and peace.
