Zero-Tariff Access for Jordanian Apparel Exports to US Marks Major Economic Milestone, Says Minister
Amman, The Gulf Observer: Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, has described the newly secured zero-tariff exemption for Jordanian apparel exports to the United States as a transformative achievement that will significantly enhance the country’s economic competitiveness and strengthen its export sector.
Qudah said the exemption, secured under the recently concluded Jordan-US reciprocal trade agreement, provides Jordan’s garment and textile industry with a substantial competitive advantage in the American market. The measure is expected to stimulate exports, attract new investments, create employment opportunities, and reinforce Jordan’s position as a regional manufacturing and export hub.
The minister noted that the agreement grants all segments of Jordan’s textile and apparel industry preferential access to the US market through zero-tariff treatment, while maintaining broader reciprocal trade arrangements between the two countries. He emphasized that the move reflects the strong economic partnership between Jordan and the United States and supports the Kingdom’s long-term industrial development strategy.
According to Qudah, the tariff exemption is expected to strengthen the entire textile value chain, from raw materials and production inputs to finished garments, enabling Jordanian manufacturers to expand production, improve competitiveness, and access new business opportunities in one of the world’s largest consumer markets.
Jordan’s apparel and textile sector remains one of the country’s leading export industries, with the United States serving as its largest export destination. Officials believe the enhanced market access will contribute to increased foreign exchange earnings, industrial growth, and sustainable economic development in the Kingdom.
