South Africa Launches First Nationwide Labour and Immigration Blitz to Strengthen Compliance, Protect Workers

Cape Town, The Gulf Observer: The South African government has launched its first coordinated nationwide multidisciplinary labour and immigration enforcement blitz aimed at strengthening compliance with labour laws, protecting workers’ rights, and ensuring adherence to immigration regulations across the country.

The large-scale inspections were conducted simultaneously across all nine provinces under the leadership of the Department of Employment and Labour, in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs. The operation was supported by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies as part of a coordinated effort to promote a fair, compliant and inclusive labour market.

Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Jomo Sibiya said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enforcing the country’s laws consistently while safeguarding the rights of workers. He stressed that employers must comply with labour legislation and that all individuals residing in South Africa must do so legally.

During one of the operations, authorities arrested the director of a company accused of employing undocumented foreign nationals. Eight undocumented foreign workers were also taken into custody as part of the enforcement action.

The government said the nationwide inspections will continue as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with labour, immigration and related legislation, while fostering a safer working environment and protecting both workers and law-abiding employers.
