Xi Jinping Signs Decree for New Environmental Protection Regulations in China's Military

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his capacity as chairman of the Central Military Commission, has signed a decree to issue new regulations on environmental protection for the country’s military. The regulations, aimed at advancing the development of green military camps, represent a comprehensive reform of the military’s environmental management system, and will take effect on October 1, 2024.

The new regulations are designed to improve work procedures and standardize operational mechanisms, ensuring that the military’s environmental protection efforts align with national policies. The regulations clearly define the objectives and tasks of environmental protection within military activities, facilities, and equipment, emphasizing the military’s responsibility to contribute to China’s broader sustainability goals.

Comprising 50 articles across six chapters, the regulations provide detailed requirements on environmental protection in various military operations. This initiative marks a significant step in China’s commitment to integrating environmental sustainability into the operations of its armed forces, while reinforcing Xi’s broader vision for ecological progress and green development.

The new regulations are expected to enhance the military’s capacity to manage its environmental impact, in line with China’s national and international commitments to environmental preservation.
