Putrajaya, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged civil servants to significantly enhance their performance following the implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which includes a substantial salary increase. Addressing civil servants at the monthly assembly of the Prime Minister’s Department, Anwar emphasized that public expectations for improved services must be met.

“The implementation of SSPA begins this month, as promised. Congratulations to those receiving a salary increase. However, we agreed to this because it is a fair measure, and in return, I expect much better performance,” he stated.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, along with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Anwar also called on civil servants to support Shamsul Azri’s reform initiatives aimed at transforming the civil service at all levels. “I hope for full support because people want to see reform at the grassroots level, in districts and ministries,” he said.

As both Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Anwar expressed confidence in the civil service’s potential for enhanced performance, noting that human capabilities can be developed beyond current achievements.

The SSPA replaces the Malaysian Remuneration Scheme (SSM) and introduces salary adjustments ranging from 16.8% to 42.7%. This reform is expected to positively impact the economic well-being of civil servants and provide better career advancement opportunities within the public sector.

The salary revision underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the civil service and ensuring that improved compensation is matched by increased efficiency and service quality for the Malaysian public.
