Turkmenistan's Diplomatic Initiatives Lead to Adoption of Key UN Documents

New York, The Gulf Observer: Several important documents have been officially adopted by the United Nations, following initiatives led by Turkmenistan in late 2024, as announced by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN on Tuesday. These documents are now available in the six UN official languages as part of the materials for the 79th session of the General Assembly.

Among the documents adopted are the resolution titled Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation in Central Asia, the final declaration of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport meeting, and the summary report of the International Conference of Experts on Promoting Energy Connectivity and Sustainable Development.

The UN General Assembly had previously, on December 2, unanimously adopted the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, a resolution initiated by Turkmenistan, during its 79th session.

Turkmenistan, which became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992, just months after gaining independence, has been an active participant in UN activities. The country has consistently supported initiatives focused on peace, security, and sustainable development.

A cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s diplomatic approach is its commitment to neutrality, a status that was officially recognized by the UN in 1995, underscoring the nation’s dedication to fostering global peace and cooperation.
