Sultan of Oman and Angola’s President Joao Lourenco Attend Signing of Key Agreements
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Joao Lourenco of the Republic of Angola presided over the signing of a pivotal agreement and two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) Thursday at Al Alam Palace, marking a significant development during the President’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
The primary agreement formalizes the acquisition of a stake in Angola’s Catoca and Luele mines, opening new avenues for bilateral cooperation in the mining sector. The first MoU focuses on enhancing collaboration in the energy sector, while the second seeks to explore strategic financial initiatives between the two nations.
The agreement and MoUs were signed on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman by Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority, and on behalf of the Angolan government by Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, alongside Vera Esperança dos Santos, Minister of Finance.
The momentous signing ceremony was attended by members of the Royal Family, Omani ministers, military commanders, and the official delegation accompanying President Lourenco. The agreements are expected to strengthen the longstanding relations between Oman and Angola, furthering cooperation in key sectors.
