Iranian President Congratulates Lebanon’s Joseph Aoun on Presidential Election Victory

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian extended his congratulations to Lebanon’s newly elected President Joseph Aoun, expressing Iran’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations during Aoun’s presidency.

In a message on Friday, President Pezeshkian conveyed Iran’s commitment to enhancing cooperation across various fields. He expressed optimism that Lebanon’s political consensus, which led to Aoun’s election, would foster political stability, economic growth, and peace for the Lebanese people.

“The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran declares its readiness to further develop bilateral cooperation in all fields during your presidency,” Pezeshkian stated.

The Iranian president also emphasized the importance of unity in countering external threats, asserting, “Strengthening resilience and unity will undoubtedly thwart the Zionist enemy’s ambitions against the land of Lebanon.”

Joseph Aoun was elected as Lebanon’s president on Thursday, following two rounds of voting in the 128-member parliament. His election ends a two-year political stalemate that had left the country without a formal government since October 2022, when former president Michel Aoun vacated office.

Aoun’s presidency is expected to focus on addressing Lebanon’s economic challenges and fostering stability in the politically diverse Mediterranean nation.
