Mandalika International Circuit to Host GT World Challenge Asia in May 2025

Mataram, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s Mandalika International Circuit, located in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is set to host the prestigious GT World Challenge Asia from May 9–11, 2025. The international car racing championship will feature a total of 66 racers from 33 teams representing 21 countries.

Priandi Satria, President Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), confirmed the event on Sunday, highlighting the extensive coordination between MGPA and the SRO Motorsports Group since 2022 to ensure the circuit’s readiness and eligibility.

“The event’s confirmed schedule proves that the Mandalika Special Economic Zone is an attractive venue for the global motorsports scene,” Satria stated.

He further elaborated that MGPA engaged in a series of discussions with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to secure approval for the upcoming race. As the Mandalika International Circuit was originally designed for motorcycle racing, several modifications were necessary to accommodate car racing.

“The run-off areas have been reduced by eight meters, from 10 meters to just two meters from the track’s white lines,” he explained.

Both FIA and FIM have now declared the circuit eligible for both car and motorcycle racing events.

Earlier, on February 2, Satria announced that the Mandalika International Circuit would host at least four international racing events in 2025, including MotoGP, the Asia Road Racing Championship, the GT World Challenge Asia, and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Additionally, the circuit will also host domestic races and various non-racing events throughout the year.
