Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Killing of Pakistani Nationals in Iran, Calls for Swift Justice

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the killing of eight Pakistani nationals in Iran’s Sistan province, urging Iranian authorities to swiftly apprehend and punish those responsible for the “heinous act of terrorism.”
According to Iranian media reports, the victims—car mechanics by profession—were gunned down at a workshop in the Mehrestan district, located near the Afghan border. Six of the deceased were residents of Khanqa Sharif in Bahawalpur, while two hailed from Ahmedpur Sharqia.
In an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz described the attack as a brutal act of terror and called on Iranian officials to immediately disclose the motives behind the killings. “Terrorism remains a grave threat to the entire region,” he stated, urging neighbouring countries to collaborate on a comprehensive strategy to counter extremism and ensure regional stability.
The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to remain in close contact with the bereaved families and extend all necessary assistance. He also instructed Pakistan’s Embassy in Tehran to expedite the repatriation of the victims’ remains and provide consular support on an urgent basis.
Grieving family members have appealed to the Government of Pakistan for swift action in bringing their loved ones’ bodies home and ensuring justice is served.
The attack comes at a sensitive time, as Islamabad and Tehran continue efforts to strengthen bilateral relations following a brief period of cross-border tensions earlier this year.
This incident echoes a similar tragedy from the previous year, when nine Pakistani nationals were killed in a firing incident near the border, just one day after the two countries had resumed full diplomatic engagement.
The Government of Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and pursuing all diplomatic channels to ensure accountability and justice in this matter.
