Amir of Qatar Receives Phone Call from Iranian President

Doha, The Gulf Observer: His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, received a telephone call on Tuesday from His Excellency Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
At the outset of the conversation, His Highness the Amir strongly condemned the recent attack on Al-Udeid Air Base carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. He described the incident as a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, and a clear breach of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
His Highness emphasized that the attack runs contrary to the principles of good neighborliness and the longstanding relations between the two countries. He noted that Qatar has consistently advocated for dialogue with Iran and has undertaken significant diplomatic efforts in support of regional peace and understanding.
Stressing the urgent need for de-escalation, the Amir called for an immediate cessation of military operations and a sincere return to negotiations and dialogue to resolve the crisis peacefully and to safeguard the security of the region and the well-being of its people.
In response, President Pezeshkian expressed deep regret to His Highness the Amir and to the Qatari people over the damage caused by the incident. He clarified that the State of Qatar and its people were not the intended targets of the operation and that the attack should not be viewed as a threat to Qatar.
President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s respect for Qatar as a neighboring, Muslim, and brotherly nation. He expressed his hope that bilateral relations will continue to be founded on mutual respect, sovereignty, and the principles of good neighborliness.
