National Defence College Launches “Decision Making-12” Strategic Drill

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The annual strategic exercise “Decision Making-12” commenced on Sunday at the National Defence College (NDC) of the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies, marking a key phase in Oman’s advanced national security and strategic training programme.
Scheduled to run until July 8, the drill involves participants from the 12th session of the National Defence College, representing various military, security, and civilian institutions. The exercise is also attended by a number of experts, advisors from security departments, government ministries and units, and members of the NDC faculty.
The “Decision Making-12” exercise is designed to translate the academic and theoretical knowledge gained throughout the course into practical application. It showcases participants’ understanding of strategic studies and their ability to employ modern training techniques in tackling national, regional, and international challenges.
Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah Al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College and Director of the Drill, highlighted the significance of the exercise in equipping participants with the skills necessary to effectively address strategic issues and respond to complex scenarios.
He emphasized that the drill reflects the comprehensive academic syllabus of the 12th session, and is a culmination of the participants’ academic journey in strategic leadership and planning.
“The exercise reaffirms the importance of practical implementation of academic learning in real-time strategic decision-making environments,” Rear Admiral Al Shidi stated.
“Decision Making-12” aims to deepen the participants’ understanding of strategic thinking and enhance their analytical capabilities in addressing high-level national and international issues. It also seeks to strengthen inter-agency coordination and strategic preparedness in line with Oman’s national defence and security objectives.
