Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei attended a solemn mourning ceremony on Saturday night marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam, and his loyal companions.

The ceremony was held at the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya, located within the compound of the Leader’s office in downtown Tehran. This gathering coincides with the ninth night of Muharram, a sacred period in the Islamic calendar dedicated to commemorating the tragic events of the Battle of Karbala.

Imam Hussein (AS), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was martyred alongside his family members and companions on the 10th of Muharram in the year 680 CE, in a defining moment of resistance and sacrifice in Islamic history.

The mourning rituals, attended by Ayatollah Khamenei and various groups of faithful mourners, featured eulogies, recitations of elegies, and reflections on the spiritual and historical significance of Imam Hussein’s (AS) stand for justice and truth.
