Tokayev and Zhaparov Reaffirm Kazakh-Kyrgyz Brotherhood at Supreme Interstate Council

Bishkek, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov co-chaired the 7th meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, the Akorda press service reported.
In his remarks, President Tokayev expressed gratitude to his Kyrgyz counterpart for the invitation, noting that his official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. He emphasized that the high-level political dialogue between the two countries would elevate their interaction to a new level.
“Time-tested friendship between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan is a spiritual heritage passed from generation to generation. Today, the relations between our nations have grown to the level of unshakable partnership, based on mutual trust and respect,” Tokayev stated. He described Kyrgyzstan as one of Kazakhstan’s key strategic partners, highlighting that bilateral trade has reached nearly USD 2 billion with strong potential for further growth.
The Kazakh leader underscored expanding investment cooperation and progress in joint projects, as well as coordinated action in the water and energy sectors and growing cultural-humanitarian exchanges. He recalled that last year both sides signed the historic Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Allied Relations and announced that a Comprehensive Cooperation Plan would be adopted during the meeting.
For his part, President Zhaparov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to strengthening relations with Kazakhstan “in the spirit of friendship, good-neighborliness, and fraternity.” He hailed Kazakhstan as a fraternal country and a key partner in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy.
“From ancient times, our peoples have lived in harmony and friendship, supporting each other. Based on this friendship, we will be able to jointly address all emerging issues. Kyrgyz and Kazakhs are twin nations. As great Abai said: No Kazakh will doubt the common origin of the Kyrgyz and Kazakhs,” Zhaparov said.
As part of his visit, President Tokayev also paid tribute at the Ata Beyit National Memorial Complex near Bishkek, laying flowers at the monument to the victims of the 1916 tragedy and honoring those who suffered under Stalin’s repressions. He further paid respects to the memory of renowned Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov, who proposed the name of the memorial complex.
