Uzbek Senate Committee Chairman Participates in UNFPA Regional Conference in Manila

Manila, The Gulf Observer: Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Science, Education and Healthcare, Bahrom Abdullaev, took part in the regional conference “International Conference on Population and Development: Programme of Action and Implementation of Commitments to the 2030 Development Goals”, held on September 3–5 in Manila under the auspices of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The forum brought together parliamentarians from more than 30 countries, along with representatives of government institutions and international organizations.
In his address on “Youth at the Center of Policy: Reforms on the Path to Sustainable Development”, Senator Abdullaev highlighted Uzbekistan’s large-scale reforms to expand opportunities for youth, promote gender equality, and strengthen social support for girls from low-income families.
Discussions at the plenary and thematic sessions focused on issues including women’s rights, gender equality, youth welfare, healthy lifestyles, ageing populations, demographic research, and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants emphasized the importance of international cooperation, sharing best practices, and adopting innovative approaches in population and development policy.
On the sidelines of the event, Abdullaev participated in an open dialogue hosted by Meta on “Cybersecurity: Risks and Malicious Content on the Internet for Young Users”, which addressed the need to protect youth in the digital space and build a safer online environment.
He also held a meeting with members of the Philippine House of Representatives, during which Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms, international initiatives, and prospects for strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants adopted recommendations aimed at enhancing youth involvement in politics, ensuring economic and social stability, and leveraging digital platforms for educational development.
