Emergency Warning Issued as Fast-Moving Bushfire Threatens Perth’s South-Eastern Suburbs

Perth, The Gulf Observer: An emergency warning has been issued for a rapidly spreading bushfire burning through the south-eastern suburbs of Perth, placing lives, homes, and critical infrastructure at immediate risk, according to local media reports.
Residents in parts of Kenwick, Wattle Grove, Maddington, and Beckenham have been ordered to leave without delay as the blaze continues to advance. Authorities said the fire is moving in an easterly direction, with properties along Bickley Road now under direct threat.
The warning zone is bounded by Welshpool Road East, Tonkin Highway, Kenwick Road, Brixton Street, and Roe Highway, and includes sections of the Kenwick Wetlands Nature Reserve, which is currently affected by the fire.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) confirmed that aerial firefighting support has been deployed to contain the blaze, which was first reported at 12:12 pm. Ground crews are working under challenging conditions as temperatures in Perth reached 30°C by midday, alongside a high fire danger alert.
Media reported that Rehoboth Christian College is being evacuated as the fire burns near the adjacent Kenwick Wetlands.
The bushfire has caused major traffic disruptions, with sections of Roe Highway and Tonkin Highway brought to a standstill due to smoke and emergency operations.
Authorities have urged residents in the affected suburbs to follow evacuation instructions immediately and stay updated through official emergency channels as conditions continue to evolve.
