Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy have successfully concluded the 2026 Cassowary Exercise, a five-day bilateral naval training program aimed at strengthening maritime security cooperation and enhancing operational interoperability between the two countries.

Held in Australia from July 27 to 31, the exercise involved 15 Indonesian Navy personnel led by Task Force Commander Col. Ferry H. Hutagaol. Participants conducted training on operating minor war vessels and maritime law enforcement operations, focusing on improving capabilities in patrol missions and the handling of smaller naval craft.

According to the Indonesian Navy, the exercise was completed smoothly, with all participating personnel adhering to operational procedures and safety regulations throughout the training period. The drills were designed to strengthen readiness for a range of maritime security scenarios while fostering closer professional cooperation between the two naval forces.

Chief of the Indonesian Navy Information Office, First Admiral Tunggul, said the annual exercise not only enhances the operational skills of naval personnel but also reinforces the strategic defence partnership between Indonesia and Australia. He expressed confidence that participants would be better prepared to respond to evolving maritime security challenges and contribute more effectively to safeguarding regional waters.

Exercise Cassowary is part of the longstanding defence cooperation between Indonesia and Australia and reflects both countries’ shared commitment to promoting maritime stability, combating transnational maritime threats, and strengthening security collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region.
