Azerbaijan Participates in International Conference on Women’s Rights in Cairo

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: An international conference titled “Investing in Religious and Media Discourse and Its Impact on the Protection and Promotion of Women’s Rights in OIC Member States” commenced in Cairo on February 1.

The conference is being held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and is jointly organized by Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and Egypt’s National Council for Women.

The two-day event has brought together Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, ministers, ambassadors, religious scholars, and official delegations from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Azerbaijan is represented by a delegation led by Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.

Discussions during the conference focus on the role of women in countering religious and ideological extremism, promoting peace and security, and the significance of media, culture, and the arts in shaping public perceptions of women. Other key themes include women’s economic rights, their contribution to national gross domestic product (GDP), and measures to protect women from cyber violence.

The conference is expected to conclude with the adoption of the “Cairo Declaration,” outlining collective commitments to advancing women’s rights across OIC member states.
