Azerbaijan, Syria Discuss Energy Cooperation and Regional Stability on Sidelines of Antalya Forum

Antalya, The Gulf Observer: Ilham Aliyev held a meeting with Ahmed al-Sharaa, Transitional President of the Syrian Arab Republic, on April 17 on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
During the talks, both leaders recalled their previous engagements, including meetings held during Ahmed al-Sharaa’s visit to Azerbaijan last year and within the framework of the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, highlighting the continuity of high-level dialogue between the two countries.
The discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations in light of recent developments in Syria, with both sides noting that concrete steps have been taken to strengthen cooperation.
Energy collaboration emerged as a key area of focus, with the leaders emphasizing the importance of a proposed project to export Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Turkish territory. The initiative was described as a significant step toward enhancing Syria’s energy security and supporting its broader economic development.
President Ahmed al-Sharaa expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s continued support to Syria, reiterating gratitude for assistance provided during a critical period.
The two sides also exchanged views on the future trajectory of bilateral relations and discussed regional developments, expressing concern over ongoing tensions. Both leaders underscored the importance of resolving conflicts through diplomatic means.
They highlighted the role of reciprocal visits and sustained high-level contacts in fostering closer ties and expanding cooperation across sectors.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev extended an invitation to President Ahmed al-Sharaa to visit Azerbaijan, which was gratefully accepted.
The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening partnership and promoting stability through constructive engagement.
