Mehriban Aliyeva

Tbilisi, The Gulf Observer: Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, visited the Georgian National Museum during her trip to Tbilisi, where she explored key exhibitions highlighting Georgia’s rich historical and archaeological heritage.

The museum showcases artifacts spanning various periods of Georgia’s history. Among the prominent displays, the “Stone Age in Georgia” exhibition features significant archaeological discoveries, including findings from Dmanisi in the Kvemo Kartli region. These include human remains and tools dating back approximately 1.8 million years, with more than 500 Stone Age sites identified across the country.

Another major exhibition, “Archaeological Treasure,” presents rare jewelry pieces dating from the 3rd millennium BC to the 4th century AD, offering insights into the region’s ancient civilizations and craftsmanship.

Following her tour, Mehriban Aliyeva presented a special cultural gift to the museum on behalf of Azerbaijan—a collection titled “A New Look at Cultural Heritage,” comprising five rare carpets produced by Azerkhalcha. The collection reflects modern interpretations of traditional Azerbaijani carpet designs.

The donated collection includes carpets such as “Nakhchivan,” blending classical “Khatai” and “Chalabi” motifs; “Achma-yumma,” inspired by the Garabagh carpet school; “Garabagh,” symbolizing cosmic harmony through rhythmic patterns; the “Bandi-Rumi” composition; “Ovchulug” (“Hunting”), representing Eastern artistic traditions; and “Pazırık,” a contemporary interpretation of the world’s oldest known pile carpet with a history of approximately 2,500 years.

The leadership of the Georgian National Museum expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the valuable cultural contribution
