Sheikh Abdullah, UK Foreign Secretary Hold Talks on Regional Security

London, The Gulf Observer: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, held talks with Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, during his working visit to London.
The two sides reviewed regional developments and discussed the repercussions of what the UAE described as unprovoked Iranian terrorist attacks targeting civilian sites and facilities in the country using missiles and drones.
According to discussions during the meeting, the attacks pose serious implications for regional peace and security, while also threatening international maritime navigation and the stability of global energy markets.
The ministers stressed the importance of intensifying international coordination and cooperation to protect vital maritime corridors and strengthen global trade security.
The talks also addressed a recent drone strike that caused a fire in an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the Al Dhafra region. Officials confirmed that the incident caused no injuries and had no impact on radiation safety levels.
During the meeting, Yvette Cooper reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s solidarity with the UAE and condemned the attacks, describing them as a flagrant violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
For his part, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed appreciation for the UK’s supportive stance and praised the deep-rooted historical and strategic relations between the two countries, noting continued progress in bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The discussions also focused on enhancing joint regional and international cooperation aimed at reinforcing security and stability in the region.
Both ministers further reviewed the strategic partnership between the UAE and the United Kingdom and explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in support of the mutual interests and prosperity of both nations.
The meeting was attended by Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, and Mansoor Abulhoul.
